Golden Gate Bridge

Spanning the mile-wide strait between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge stands as one of the most iconic engineering achievements and photographed landmarks in the world. Completed in 1937, its striking International Orange color and Art Deco towers were designed by architect Irving Morrow to complement the natural hues of the surrounding hills and sky.

At nearly 2.7 kilometers long, the bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its completion, connecting the city of San Francisco to the wild, rugged headlands of Marin County. Its twin towers rise 227 meters above the water, often piercing through the region's famous rolling fog, creating one of the most dramatic and recognizable silhouettes in American architecture.

Visitors can experience the bridge from countless angles, from walking or cycling directly across its pedestrian walkway for sweeping views of the bay, Alcatraz Island, and the city skyline, to admiring it from below at Fort Point or from the scenic overlooks along the Marin Headlands. Sunset is a particularly magical time, when the fading light sets the bridge's orange towers ablaze against the darkening sky and city lights beginning to twinkle across the bay.

Beyond its visual grandeur, the Golden Gate Bridge remains a vital symbol of American ingenuity and Art Deco design, drawing millions of visitors each year who come simply to stand beneath its towering cables and take in one of the most breathtaking urban landscapes on Earth.
